In the Meantime-Or-Better Living through Sanity
(Practical hints and tips on how to make it through some of those rough days.)

Did you ever notice how much energy it takes just to make it though a day? SPD’s (Single Personality Disorder) don’t know how lucky they are. They generally start out the day sane, with their mind together, go through the day dealing with issues in a sane fashion, and then come to the end of the day still remembering who they are and what state they are living in!

Not so for some of us!!! We are sometimes awakened by the music that starts in our head, struggle to remember the basics—who, what, where am I and why; then even the little issues and difficulties take on a whole new twist. Trying to maintain some level of sanity while also trying to function, can be quite a feat.

How do I keep a memory from “coming”?
Basically, you can’t, but God can. Sometimes, (and there do seem to be times when nothing helps), I have found that if I sense a memory “on the tip of my mind,” but I am, let’s say, in the middle of a lecture in front of a whole classroom of college students and can’t deal with it right then; or I sense that it night be dangerous to remember remembering it while I am by myself and can’t talk to my counselor until later; I ask the Lord to “put a gate around it.” That’s my way of saying that I want to deal with it, but can’t now.

In other words, I put God in charge of the memory.
