Seasons of Healing
—by Alaine
(From the Toggles Connection Newsletter)
One of the things we did at our first annual TOGS retreat was to pool our intellects (!) and write a book… well, at least the beginnings of a book. Our topic was SEASONS OF HEALING.
The main point of our discussion was that there are many similarities between the seasons of the year and the normal healing process that many of us have gone through. Here’s the list of what we saw as being the same about both events:
- Every region of the country has different seasons, just like everyone’s healing experience is unique
- Each phase or season looks totally different than the previous one
- In the dead of winter it’s hard to believe there’s a spring coming
- In the healing process, as in the seasons, the old gives way for the new
- You have to adjust to each new season of healing, just like you have to get out different clothes as the weather changes
- There are possible illnesses associated with each (frostbite, sunburn, heatstroke, hay fever, or a nasty cold)
- Healing involves inevitable changes
- Sometimes unpredictable weather comes up
- Changes can come fast (sometimes you can even get caught in a downpour!)
- Different emotions come with each season
- No matter how hard you try, you can’t stop the seasons
- God ordained seasons, both in the weather, and in the healing process
- Longing for the upcoming season can hinder your enjoyment of the current one
The most important thing to realize is that God can help you get though each different phase of your healing. The closer you can stay to Him, the more strength you will find.
